Allowing a diverse community to access resources, information and people
There is no dearth of potential leaders and good ideas for social change in India. What’s missing is an enabling and co-working spaces that individuals from various walks of life to take the plunge and realize the social innovator within them.
A community of multidisciplinary individuals – that builds a collaborative culture and blends skills, approaches and perspectives – can create value far in excess of the sum of their parts. Such a community is critical for the emergence of disruptive innovations that fundamentally shift the way things are done to tackle persistent issues.
The Challenge
Building an ecosystem to spark new ideas that work
We understand that a community is made of individuals who have access to the right ideas, resources and networks and this is critical to spark ideas that work for a better world. Before reaching that stage, we have identified the following challenges to be addressed:
- Lack of dynamic co-working spaces that act as labs for social innovation: traditional work spaces are not working anymore. There is a need to create vibrant and flexible spaces that inspire individuals to think of new and bold ideas, solutions and realize them.
- Inadequate access to ‘just-in-time’ tools and resources: social innovators have inadequate access to professional, affordable and more importantly ‘just-in-time’ tools and resources. These tools and resources range from infrastructure to networks to finance.
- Inadequate access to networks of sharing and learning: there is a lack of networks that focus on building social capital of perspectives, knowledge, skills and personal experiences from individuals, in different professions, working towards social change.
- Lack of community of and for social change makers: we believe that many people, in their personal journeys, have innovative ideas that can potentially change their communities and their own lives. What they often need is a community that recognizes and believes in their potential to be a changemaker.
